I am enamored with the fact that you write children’s books. How did you get into it? I write children’s and young adult fiction stories, but I haven’t gotten anything to a publisher. I really want to bring more morally sound stories to those genres, not that tween dating stuff.
Thank you! I knew I wanted to be a writer the minute I learned how to hold a pencil. So . . . after a path with lots of twists and turns . . . I now get to write for a living! 🙂
I’ve just realised that you are a teacher too. So am I! I teach year 4 in New Zealand – my kids are 8 and 9 years old. I don’t talk about teaching on my blog, its my ‘other life’ and I didn’t click that you were either. When other staff read my blog, I hear a lot of “when do you have TIME to do all of that?” … But I make the time, it keep me sane. But when I see what you do, I feel the same – you do a lot!
I’m trained in Reading Recovery, which originated in New Zealand, so I’ve read a LOT about your wonderful teachers and schools! I always wanted to come visit! I got to meet Marie Clay in person at a conference, and she autographed my RR handbook. What an inspiration she was! It’s so wonderful to meet you, and I admire you, too, for all you do! Keep in touch! 🙂
That would be great, I’d love to keep in touch 🙂 Thanks for the kind words about NZ teaching/teachers, too. Its my first year (consider it a mid-life career flip) so I am learning the ropes and grateful for the awesome staff around me.

Your books look great Katherine! Well done.
I’m sending you an email later today, in case you don’t recognize the address: it will be from veggiecook or ghhart.
Have a great day! G
Thank you, Geraldine! 🙂 I’ll look forward to hearing from you. 🙂
