A Quiet Way to Help . . .

Standard

Drawstring Bag1. In a ziplock bag, put:

  • individual containers of easy-to-open, nonperishable foods
  • a bottle of water
  • some napkins
  • a spoon
  • and some hand sanitizer or a small bar of soap.

2. Put the filled bag in your car, tote, or backpack to give away . . . you’ll know when.

3. Repeat. ♥

P.S. This lovely drawstring tote was made by one of the great-great-grandmas in my family. She would be so happy to see its new job!

  1. Great idea! How generous of you to give this handmade gem away; but I know it will touch someone deeply. And yes, the great-great-grandma would be so proud! (Last year, our small group put together plastic bags full of water bottles, granola bars, soap, etc. and we just kept them in our cars to give out at stop-lights or when we saw someone in need. We might need to do that again! Thanks for the reminder.)

  2. You are so kind. This is a wonderful idea. I might use my fabric scraps to make a few. We also receive small sized toothpastes from our dentist, and the occasional lotion from a hotel we can pass on. A pair of warm socks might go in there as well.

  3. I thought this was such a good idea that I had to share it on Facebook. So often we see someone who could use such a gift as this. Thank you for sharing it. If I want to re-blog this, would I have your permission?

This blog post from PILLOWS A-LA-MODE was such a great idea I wanted to pass it along. The great thing about this idea is that it’s not limited to just edible items. With winter just around the corner you can add mittens, or a scarf or hat as well. Also, you may not want to leave it in your car during the colder months but maybe leave it by your front door to take with you when ever you use your car.
Thanks again Pillows a-la-mode for such a wonderful idea! 🙂

  5. Katherine, that is a lovely idea. I used to carry food in my car to give to homeless rather than money and would drop off blankets, along with my and my children’s outgrown winter wear and pjs to homeless shelters, of course I made sure they were in good condition. Those who are needy really do appreciate every little bit of help.

  6. This is a great idea! During the beginning of every semester, a group of women and myself get together to make care packages for the college students at our church and once I saw your post- I immediately thought of them! I know they’ll appreciate the tote bag. I’m definitely going to bring this up for Spring semester. Thank you, Katherine!:)

  7. What a lovely way to help! When a friend’s daughters decided to help a local women’s shelter, we made up similar bags for the women who needed to use the shelter, but we included toiletries such as deodorant, toothbrush & paste, com/brush, etc. because most who use the shelter come in with only the clothes on their back – sometimes not even that, if their clothes were confiscated as evidence in an assault case. They also asked that everyone who attended bring in a new pair of pajamas or nightgown. Sometimes it is the simplest things that are needed the most. 🙂
