Easiest Infinity Scarf Ever!

Standard

From dress to tunicAs much as I love to sew, I couldn’t resist this dress I found at Old Navy.

The color! The print! The lightweight, summery, flowy fabric! The neckline! The tucks! The matching belt! The price!

But . . . after “almost” wearing it several times, I decided it was too short for 5′ 10″ me.

So, out came the scissors and off came 6 inches from the hem. After a quick pinning and hemming on the sewing machine, I had a PERFECT tunic to wear over capris or skinny jeans!

The drapiness made the remaining fabric perfect for an infinity scarf, too. All I had to do was hem the raw edge . . . quick, easy, and a fun “freebie” accessory.

P.S. My grandmother made these beautiful crocheted hangers for me when I was a new bride. I AM going to learn how to do this someday! β™₯

  1. Girlfriend…someday I ought to just pack up my tired wardrobe, send it to you for a remake, and then feel like a new woman when I get it back from you! You do the most clever and fun things with a piece of cloth!

    • How fun would THAT be??? πŸ™‚ Oh, and the fabric I ordered from your shop arrived and I LOVE it! I’m going to make a project I bookmarked a LONG time ago called a “5-minute skirt.” Even if it takes 5 hours instead, it will be totally worth it to style that print! πŸ™‚ I’ll let you know when I finish and post it!

    • That made me laugh, Judy!!! πŸ™‚ Truly, though, my skinny jeans are as soft and comfy as a pair of leggings (but not as revealing of every little bump and curve), so I love wearing them with tunics. You’d look cute in them, too! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Marilyn! I think tunics are SO comfortable! And I DO love those hangers! I have all the things I need to try making one . . . just need a little more crochet practice first! πŸ™‚

  2. I am all for altering clothes so they fit properly and fit your style. Please do a blog if you figure out how to do those crochet hangers, I’ve tried and so far it’s been very very difficult and unsuccessful.

  3. good idea and your scarf is very pretty Katherine! πŸ™‚
the crocheted hanger that your grandma made looks beautiful and you’ve kept it
after all these years; very nice! πŸ™‚

  4. What a terrific idea! It’s one of those “why didn’t I think of that?” things. Thanks for sharing this awesome and easy scarf. I love that fabric, too! πŸ™‚ And, those hangers are awesome. Like you, sometime (in my “spare” time?) I want to make some of those!
    Blessings,

    • Thank you, Kim! I’m really enjoying both the tunic and the scarf now! πŸ™‚ And I can’t wait to find time to relearn to crochet so I can try some hangers . . . I’d love to replace my whole closet with these! πŸ™‚

  5. Makes me feel all summery Kathryn ! Lovely fabric way too nice not to do something K-like with it !!
Bring on the crochet hangers …Grandma will be smiling now I reckon at the thought of her work going universal πŸ™‚
