Do you recognize this little riff? These famous seven beats have been used for over a century to end a song or joke or as a call-and-response . . . the first person sings, hums, or taps out the first five beats (“Shave and a hair cut . . .”) and the other person supplies the ending (” . . . two bits!”).
Since I decided I needed ONE more piece of whimsical (and QUICK! and FREE!) art in my my guest bathroom, I used the words to create a 5 x 7 sign with a fun font and the (clipart!) music notes.
I already had the frame, which fits perfectly in the room’s black/white/lime green/silver color palette.

Hilarious and charming at the same time – how do you do it? 😀
Aww . . . thank you! 🙂
Now that’s going to be in my head allllll day long, HA Remember Bugs Bunny being the barber and Elmer Fud was getting the works, Love those guys 😀 Cute stuff Katherine!
Yes! I think this was used a LOT in cartoons . . . and maybe still is! 🙂 (But sorry for putting it in your head . . . that can be annoying, I know!)
you know I love this one….
🙂

Thank you, Jessica! Oh, and your blog is SO pretty . . . your photos are amazing! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
oh! how cute this is! very, very cute for the bathroom! 🙂
Thank you, Ingrid! I thought that since the duck was more for the little ones, I should add something for the grownups! 🙂
Love a bit of whimsy in the bathroom!
Thank you . . . me, too! Lots of bathroom signs I’ve seen have words like “brush” and “flush” on them. Those words don’t make me smile! 🙂
That cracked me up — so true! Long ago, we put rubber duckie stickers above the toilet, sink and light so the kids would remember to flush, wash and lights out without having to spell it out directly. Duckies go a long way. 🙂
Now, that’s clever!!! 🙂
Does your mind ever rest????? This is great!!! Hugs……..
No! 🙂 And thank you! 🙂
I didn’t think so!!! LOL!
What a Honorable Guest Bathroom! Be Blessed, Mtetar
That’s such a sweet thing to say! Thank you, Mtetar! 🙂
You’re welcome, Katherine! Mtetar
Clever and fun!
Thank you, Laura! 🙂
I wish I was your guest 🙂 atleast to see your bathroom ;D
Come on over anytime!!! 🙂
Great idea!
Thank you! 🙂
I want to see the completed bathroom project altogether…sounds so cute!…love the color scheme…
and of course “shave and a haircut”…so cute!
I tried to take a photo, but the room has no windows so I can’t get the correct lighting. Oh, well! But it’s done and I love it! 🙂 Thank you, Marilyn! 🙂
I immediately started humming! 😉
Kenley
Yay!!! 🙂
Love it!
Thank you! It made the perfect finishing touch! 🙂
I DO remember this ditty and also asking my father what ‘two bits’ was!
🙂
Hahaha! Now all you need to do is put a jar for the ‘two-bit’ donations whenever someone shaves or cuts their hair in your bathroom! lol
Hey . . . why didn’t I think of that??? 🙂
